Guys and Modesty

Many people think that girls are the ones with the unmodest dressing issues. But guy's are too. In today's culture it's okay for guys to wear low pants and for girls to wear low cut shirts. Well when u think about it, what kind of signal are u sending to ur peers and people around u. So come on guys it's not a cool thing to gals. It's actually replusive. And all of us girls need to do better too. You can still dress trendy just change the clothes up a bit. Not only is changing the clothes a little bit but it also can be fun and really cool.

In the next couple of blog post I'll show u some examples on how I change things up and still have an awesome style.

Song

Here is a song I really like. It explains how modest has been pushed away and what the media and tv really want us to look.

Make Over Your Wardobe DIY

Here is some ideas that I came across that have helped me redo things for this Fall.

When it comes to clothing, having something unique is fantastic. Better yet is something that’s made especially for you, but for most of us it’s a complete luxury!

Not everyone can afford a personal seamstress and those who can sew often don’t have the time to make something from scratch. We’ve come up with the perfect solution for girls who want a wardrobe that’s uniquely their own.
Strap Swap Out
This is a totally basic trick which is fantastic for girls who can’t wear spaghetti straps or strapless items. If you find something that you love but don’t totally agree with, simply swap out the straps! Try replacing spaghetti straps with lengths of ribbon that you tie over the shoulder or sewing comfy jersey fabric straps onto a strapless beach dress. You can even make that tank dress a racer back by snipping and then crossing over the straps before re-sewing.
Ribbon Edging
A great way to liven up basic tanks or those cheap as chips cotton skirts from Farmers and Valley Girl, is to add a little contrasting ribbon around the outside. Paired with an ad hoc ribbon bow, it’s a cute and simple look. Try a contrasting colour for a real point of difference. World is doing black chiffon with green and yellow silk ribbon edging this season, with great effect.

Print It
A basic tee, hoodie, pair of jeans or plain dress can be transformed into something completely unique to you. In a
sea of mass produced slogan tees this is a good way to adopt a trend without sacrificing your own personality. All you really need is fabric paint and a little individuality - and with so much out there at the moment in the way of sporty separates now is the cheapest and best time to give it a go. To get inspired search design sites for great ideas, but don’t forget to start small – a less ambitious project is more likely to work the first time, so build up to your really cool ideas.

Button Surgery
Although this doesn’t seem like it would have much of an effect, it honestly can make a huge difference. Next time you buy a cardigan or jacket (or skirt with button feature) unstitch all the buttons and replace them. For example I
recently got a long line cardi on sale from SUPRE for $13.00. I snipped off the plastic buttons it came with and replaced them with tiny vintage diamante ones from an antique store. Wrapped with a ribbon, it now looks like a softer, more sophistcated version of its former self.
Reconstruct
As far as basic tees and garments go, there is a lot you can do with them. In fact the act of recreating tees has formed a little bit of an online buzz and there are numerous tutorials online – from how to make a bag or skirt, to the basics of doing things like turning a tee into a halter neck. It’s a fantastic thing to get into and can provide some pretty amazing results.

Your own Style

Many us tend to look at the celbs. or the new tend of clothes coming out. We follow what's on tv but we don't even think if we should be dressing like that. We don't question how are peers dress. If it's in style or it's the new thing everyone is doing we just go along with it. We usually don't give it a second thought we just give into our society and the pressures our friends put on us to fit in. In this world the skimmper the clothes the better. It's not just gals showing off thier body now a days guys are too. My question is why even where clothes?, if your trying to get attention like that it doesn't work it only brings down your self esteem and what people think of you. Do you ever have friends ask you is this to low or this too tight? What do you say? Teens especially gals need to start encouraging their friends one by one towards femilty and fashionable modesty, you will see a better affect. We need to be able to develop our on unique special style which describes who we are and our personalities.
Your on your own run way so express yourself. When you see a dress you like you know it's your style then wear it. When you look around you see other girls and guys around you they all tend to blend in they wear the same clothes and styles from all the same desingers. But you don't have to fit it's okay to be who Yah has made you to be a specail person in His sight. GO AGAINST THE CROWD it's time for you to STAND UP !! Plus you tend to stand out and people will see you in a different light. Your making your statement in who you are. They will see you as an honest, respectful person with not having a self esteem issue casue you are glad who you are :) You can help others feel better about themselves as well.

So Keep up finding your own styles and modest trends that fit who you are :)
More coming soon :)

DYI Design: What to Sew for Fall 2010

Hey I'm going to post a couple articles on trend and ideas to help you get a feel for fashion ideas ect. I found this article really cool on how to get your style going for this fall and stay in fashion too. It's a really kewl Idea and cheap Enjoy :) ~Marissa~

Get inspired by Louis Vuitton's ladylike looks and make your own pretty frock. Photo: Francois Durand/Getty Images
Fall fashions are starting to hit stores so the time is right for some inspirational window shopping. You can easily update your wardrobe by sewing a few key pieces from the season. Perhaps a vest to befit the menswear trend? Or a long ladylike skirt (that we've been seeing so much of)? Here are some tips to help you hone in on the right piece.

Get Inspired: You'll want to hit the stores to ogle the key trends for the season and how they'll fit in with your style and closet. Grab your sketchbook and head to the mall for a little snoop shopping. Or sit down with a pile of fashion magazines and rip out the pages with fashions that you admire. I have a big bulletin board in my sewing room filled with inspirational tear sheets.
Keep It Simple: Dresses, skirts, and pants are garments that can be made in a weekend and still be quite cool and trendy. On the other hand, jackets and coats can be quite time-consuming and are better store bought. (If I'm going to put the Herculean effort required to create a tailored jacket or coat, I opt for more timeless pieces, like a double-breasted camel-colored coat or blazer.)
Get Busy: Once you've identified your desired look, it's time to hit the pattern books or research online. Zero in on simpler pieces, like a retro ladylike dress or classic skinny pants. You may wants to opt for a romantic ruffle blouse. The pattern book collections follow same seasons as designers, with new collections out in the fall and the spring.
No Shopping Required: Who says you even have to go near a store to get a new look for fall? Little Green Dresses, a new book out by former DIY Network Stylelicious host Tina Sparkles, shows how to transform the clothes that are sitting in your closet. Even simple sewing tricks like turning bootleg jeans into skinny jeans can give you a big fashion bang for your buck, along with the pleasure of expressing your creativity.
